Academic Pathways Consulting (APC), an LLC, was founded in 2017 by Maggie Hunkins, who serves as its CEO and President. Maggie completed her certificate in College Counseling from UCLA with distinction and participated in George Fox University's Masters in Counseling program in Portland, Oregon before moving to Sammamish, Washington with her husband and two children. After mentoring for Year-Up Seattle, a nonprofit that helps Urban youth find careers in the Seattle tech industry, she started volunteering at the local Boys and Girls club of Seattle, and Hopelink’s Pantry Packs. Maggie is a PTSA board member in the Lake Washington School District. She is also the Lead Chair for the Sharing is Caring Committee, a program dedicated to helping youth donate to the local food banks and world wide charities such as Sister Schools in Uganda. Ultimately, Maggie’s inspiration to become a college consultant was based on her own college experience and a desire to help students achieve their goals and find a great college that fits. Maggie is an associate member of the Independent Educational Consultant Association (IECA), the Pacific Northwest Association for College Admission Counseling (PNACAC) and the Seattle Area College Counselors (SACC.) She participates in nation wide college admission tours frequently throughout the year. Maggie is an ally to the LGTBQ community and supports equal civil rights, gender equality and LGTBQ social movements.
GUIDANCE
Academic Pathways Consulting (APC) provides assistance with academic course curriculum that aligns with college and career goals for 9th-12th grade students. Through assessments of strengths, interests, values, and aptitude, APC assists students in developing self-awareness, creating a comprehensive college application, and guides students toward extracurricular activities that enable personal and academic growth. APC provides one-on-one assistance with the completion of the Common Application, the Coalition Application, the selection of essay topics, guidance in the writing of an outstanding essay and editorial assistance. We also provide assistance in the interpretation of test scores, securing letters of recommendation, the creation of an impressive high school resume, and the creation of an appropriate social media profile. APC assists with the navigation of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and the College Scholarship Service (CSS) Profile. At the conclusion of the process, APC helps guide students and their parents through the final decision making process, based upon individual academic and extracurricular intersts, geographic location, and other factors that comprise a good "fit."
Key to Success
Tailored approach using advanced techniques to find the best fitting college based on individual personality type, interests, values, strengths, goals, majors, extracurricular activities, and finances.
Philosophy
Academic Pathways Consulting is committed to assisting students, and their families with navigating the complex college admission process. We provide a step by step approach to help students become more self-aware, and in turn find a college where they may thrive, develop their knowledge, and pursue a career that fits their pursuits and personality. We believe that students are the center of this process. Our goal is to help students identify schools where they can be happy, challenged, and successful. The best way to ensure their success is for students to take ownership of the process. When they begin to think deeply about where they want to go and why, they increase their chance of a life-changing college experience. The most popular college rankings claim to be good measures of the excellence of a college. Yet, they all compare the stats of incoming freshmen instead of the accomplishments of graduating college seniors. We are more interested in where students end up after college, not where they are after high school.
